HHO Benefits

The mission of "Homeschoolers Hang Out" is to connect local homeschool families and provide a Christian atmosphere for good old-fashioned FELLOWSHIP. We strive to create a sense of "neighborhood" and "hospitality" online AND in-person.

HHO “Online”

The “HHO Loop,” our Yahoo! Group discussion board, is where we all meet online and communicate in an open fashion. Members read, post and reply to messages from other HHO members. These messages may be viewed online or received in a simple e-mail format. The HHO Loop is where you will also find our calendar of events, educational links, photos and more.

HHO “In-Person”

HHO provides opportunities for relaxation and “hang out” time with friends. Activities are available on the HHO Calendar each month. Most events are hosted by HHO members, while some come from other sources.

The entire family is always welcome at Homeschoolers Hang Out Social Gatherings. It’s so nice to simply sit and chit-chat with other adults while the kids play together and form new friendships. HHO provides the perfect opportunity we all need to unwind and connect with others.

HHO Mom’s Night Out:

"Honey, it's Mommy's turn..."

Now and then, moms need a couple of hours away, without the kiddos, to relax and chit-chat with other adults. (Infants welcome!)

We have monthly outings that usually fall into one of two categories:

Dinner and a topic:

We've thoroughly enjoyed dining at "Mis Arados," a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Sparta, N.C., where discussions have developed on many enjoyable topics such as "How to make the most of your NCHE homeschool conference experience" and more.

Presentation night:

The library in Independence, Va., has been a great place for presentations! Michelle, our MNO Coordinator, has been so gracious to provide our ladies with helpful information on topics such as "Feed your freezer - Bulk Cooking" and "The Family Table," and more.

HHO Friday Social Gatherings Include:

"Hang Out" Time

Mingle with other homeschoolers in a relaxed setting. Fun for the entire family! Bring a snack for your family to enjoy. Spend time with other homeschooling families. This is a great opportunity to talk with other home educators in our community.

A Life Of Faith Girls Club

Gathering the young girls in our community for fun, fellowship, and faith-inspiring lessons that will further their personal relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

ALOF lessons are based on Martha Finley's Christian heroines Elsie Dinsmore and Millie Keith.

Club meetings include:

• A character building lesson

• A fun craft

• Wonderful girl fellowship

Official age for club is 8-14, but our lessons are planned so that young ladies of any age can participate. Membership is FREE. No purchase necessary (dolls, books, etc.)

Contenders for the Faith Boys Club

Contenders for the Faith is a Christian boys club similar to scouts.

PURPOSE: To become a competent, skilled young man who is not only willing, but able, to take a stand for Jesus, and defend his faith.

GOAL: To have a teachable spirit so that I may master the different crafts and skills which will enable me to become a complete, capable, well-balanced Christian young man.

Fiber Group

With “Fiber Group” we all sit around and do any craft that involves the use of a thread (fiber) such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving, felting, rug making, etc. It is fun to do while chit-chatting with friends.

Free-Play Time

When weather permits, the great outdoors is the usual place to hang out. Rainy days call for board games.

Christian Holiday Parties!

HHO parties are always lots of fun for the entire family! This is one of our Valentine Parties where all the kids exchanged cards.

HHO Bowling

Get together with your homeschooling friends once per month at Trojan Family Bowling.
